Highly detailed Kachina Doll!

The Nataska or Ogre Kachina is part of the fearsome team that accompany the Soyoko when she terrorizes the children. He usually comes as a pair, standing behind the Soyoko when she bargains for the lives of the children. He would stomp his feet and drags his saw in order to intimidate the children. Stories states that he would seek children and snatch them home to eat them. Together with his dark clothing and broad face, the children are very petrified of him during the ceremonies. The feathered fan on his headdress is made of turkey feathers and is placed together to make him look even taller.

Derrick Hayah is a talented kachina carver who always tries to test his abilities. He has spent many years carving many different kinds of kachinas and each were made in different sizes. He likes to practice his skills in maintaining the proper proportions of his kachinas and using the proper colors. He was taught by his uncle who constantly reminded him that it takes a great amount of discipline to become a great carver. Derrick was born in Keams Canyon, AZ and is a member of the Roadrunner and Greasewood clans of the Hopi tribe.

    My third purchase

I bought a nice pendant this time along with a sterling bear claws money clip. This is great value for hand made jewelry. As I mentioned previously, I guarantee anyone can find something beautiful and affordable. There also was a discount so keep an eye out for those. Shipping is always free and fast.

The picture didn't do the opals justice. The ring was more beautiful in person and fit perfectly.
