DESCRIPTION:

This is a very gorgeous ring that would make a great gift! This piece of Native American jewelry is Zuni hand crafted by artist Effie Calavaza out of genuine sterling silver, along with real Turquoise stones, and a real Coral. The ring has a total of FOUR stones, TWO of which are inlayed and create the snakes eyes, while the other TWO stones are set in hand cut bezel in the midst of a gorgeous silver snake design. Imprinted patterns and silver beads can be seen accenting for a stunning finish. The snake is found in many healing and fertility rituals. It is also connected with lightning, speed, and being able to move undetected. The ring is stamped Zuni and hallmarked by the artist.

Turquoise is the birthstone of December. It is believed that turquoise tends to bring good fortune, strength and helps overcome illness. Turquoise got its name from the Levantine traders called Turks who brought the stone to Europe from Persia via Turkey centuries ago. Native Americans have prized turquoise since the time of the Aztecs, who mined it in New Mexico. The natural variations that occur in turquoise are part of their appeal and beauty.

Corals are known to be very soothing and very protective. Coral is of an organic origin; it is the skeletal remains of marine animals called Coral Polyps. Colonies of these tiny creatures build branching structures as they grow, gradually forming reefs and atolls.

Well-known artist Effie Calavaza is from the Zuni Tribe, which is located in New Mexico. Effie was taught by her husband Juan Calavaza and began silver work in 1956. She combined her husband's work and her designs to create some of the most beautiful and most distinctive Native American art! Her sand casting and hand done work are among the best and most recognized jewelry in the southwest. Her jewelry is stamped with the family hallmark EFFIE C. ZUNI, which is used by Effie and her three daughters Georgiana Yatsattie, Gloria Jean Garcia, and Susie Calavaza. Effie's daughters assist her in the jewelry making (she shared her spouse's mark, JUAN C. ZUNI, until his death ca. 1970). To this day Effie's work is collected throughout the world and she continues making jewelry because she enjoys it!

During the past 2/3 years I have purchased earrings and recently an earring and bracelet matching set. I have given some as presents to my nieces who have been overjoyed to receive something a bit different. Quality and service excellent.

    Beginning of an Heirloom.

When she opened the box, I thought she would begin to cry as she teared up. She gave me a multicolored ring for my October birthday and I chose one for her as close as I could find in her size for Christmas. She loved it and we will treasure them! Thanks

Ordering is easy, the customer service rep. is such a nice young lady (THanks AMY) always willing to help at any time. The only issue i had was getting the order in time though, i'm positive it was the christmas holiday that delayed my order.

    Earrings and Pendant
Posted by KA Monk | Reviewing NativeAmericanJewelry.com | Posted on
I purchased a pair of earrings and pendant for a co-worker whose is of Navajo and Hopi descent. The items were beautiful and she was overwhelmed by the fact that they were Native American items. She said, "They are Navajo!" Great!
